By Community Church

The Community Church Newsletter for September 19, 2021, is now available.

Today’s newsletter includes a letter from Cantor David Sims. He has announced his resignation from his job at Holy Trinity. His last service will be Sunday, September 26. I plan to email all of my hymn requests to him later this week. (Not true—I don’t think he’s taking requests, but it’s fun to think about.)

Many climate groups, including MN Interfaith Power and Light and Climate Generation, are hosting a mayoral candidate Zoom webinar on local energy and climate justice tomorrow, September 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sign up here to receive the Zoom link.

Children and youth choirs begin rehearsing this week. The forecast for Wednesday is 75 and sunny—a perfect day to sing outside!

And the youth will begin meeting in person this Sunday! Deacon David is looking forward to welcoming youth to a new year of learning. He writes about it in today’s Community Church.

Also, note that the fall retreat has changed to a small program online.

The following Sunday, September 12, is when Sunday School and Confirmation begin for the season. It signifies the end of summer (sad face), and the countdown to Christmas (I just made that up, but it’s 117).

Bob Hulteen has an excellent post on his Minneapolis Area Synod blog. He’s called it “The Care and Feeding of Pastors.” You can read it here.

Many of you may remember David Preus, who served as presiding bishop of the American Lutheran Church for 15 years, leading the church into the merger that created the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He died earlier this month. Read what the Star Tribune said about him here.

To view the livestream from the ONE SERVICE on September 5, go to at 10:00 a.m.
