Uprising Theology Project – Phase One

After George Floyd’s murder in May 2020, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church—located less than a city block from a center of protest at the Third Police Precinct in Minneapolis—reopened its doors after months of being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We did so alongside and cooperation with our many neighbors and volunteers, who shared our commitment to justice and our concern for the Longfellow neighborhood.

We have now begun a process of collecting and sharing our stories from that time.

If you are a member of Holy Trinity, or a neighbor, or someone who volunteered with us during the uprising, we invite you to join in this process. We want to hear your story.

The first step of this process is story preparation, which will be our focus in December 2023. To facilitate this process, we have developed a workbook with prompts to help you think through and document your story.

If you would a copy of the workbook, please share your contact information and we will send one to you shortly:

Depending on your preference, digital versions will be available for immediate download; paper versions will be mailed.

Once you have completed your workbook, you have the option to submit it to our partner, Dr. Amy Levad (University of St. Thomas, Professor, Theology), who will collect workbooks for our archives.

If you would like to submit your workbook upon completion, please email amy.levad@stthomas.edu for further instructions. You may also call her at 651-962-5218 with any questions or concerns.

In the spring, we will turn to the next steps in our process, with story sharing and story collecting. We look forward to sharing information about these projects in the weeks to come!
