Capital Campaign

For generations, we have opened our doors widely. In moments of joy and grief, during times of calm and crisis, this space has held people together and made room for new possibilities to take root.

Today, we are considering an investment in this place so that our physical space can more fully reflect who we are and who we are becoming.

On Sunday, September 20, members of Holy Trinity will be asked to vote on the Church Council’s recommendation to approve a $4.5 million renovation project, including construction contingency.

This is a space for you to review the project plans, financial information, frequently asked questions, and opportunities to learn more before the vote.

Our building is home to worship and ministry, but it is also part of a much larger community ecosystem. Community partners use these spaces for meals, education, organizing, meetings, music, service, mutual aid, and connection. However:

• Outdated and inaccessible restrooms are a barrier to many.
• Education and gathering spaces need renewal.
• Aging plumbing infrastructure requires significant investment.

For trans and non-binary people, elders, people with disabilities, families, community partners, and everyone who enters this building, accessibility is not simply about convenience. It is about dignity, safety, comfort, and belonging.

The proposed project is an opportunity to care for the building we have while better aligning our physical space with the welcome, justice, and love we seek to practice every day.

The proposed renovation focuses on three interconnected priorities.

1. Accessibility & Inclusion

New accessible, all-gender restrooms on the basement, first, second, third, and fourth floors will provide greater safety, comfort, dignity, and belonging for everyone who uses the building.

2. Community Spaces

Renovated second-floor education and gathering spaces, including a kitchen space, will create flexible and welcoming rooms for ministry, meetings, learning, and community partners.

3. Building Systems

Essential plumbing infrastructure improvements will support the long-term care and sustainability of the facility.

Together, these investments help ensure that Holy Trinity can continue to be a safe, accessible, welcoming, and life-giving place for everyone who relies on it.

The proposed renovation reaches all five levels of Holy Trinity’s building, improving accessibility, renewing spaces for gathering and learning, and investing in the infrastructure that supports the building as a whole.

Basement

More accessible facilities for a heavily used community level

The basement plan includes a new cluster of six individual restrooms adjacent to the lunch room, kitchen, table and chair storage, and the corridor leading toward the gymnasium.

This level is home to some of Holy Trinity’s most heavily used community spaces, including the gymnasium, stage, kitchen, lunch room, storage, and shop areas. The proposed restroom configuration brings accessible facilities directly into the part of the building used for meals, gatherings, recreation, events, and community programming.

First Floor

FIRST FLOOR

Accessibility at the heart of the building

The first-floor plan places renovated restroom facilities near the elevator and central corridor, connecting them to the building’s primary circulation areas.

This level includes Holy Trinity’s lobby and entry, offices, reception and work areas, podcast studio, conference room, Bartsch Room/Chapel, and other shared spaces. The location of the restrooms near the elevator makes them accessible from the main floor as well as from other levels of the building.

SECOND FLOOR

Renewed spaces for worship, learning, gathering, and community

The second floor represents the most significant concentration of renewed community and education space in the project.

The plan brings together a library/adult education room, CYF gathering room, classrooms, workshop, nursery/preschool, Mary Martha Room, kitchen, and a large gathering area, alongside the sanctuary and its supporting worship spaces.

Restroom facilities are located along the central hall, connecting these gathering and education spaces to more accessible facilities.

The result is a flexible collection of spaces that can support education, ministry, meetings, worship preparation, community partners, meals, and gatherings throughout the week.

THIRD FLOOR

Supporting partners and shared life throughout the building

The third-floor plan includes restroom facilities serving a level that is extensively used by Metro Work Center, with Metro Work rooms, offices, a lunch room, and kitchen located across the floor.

The level also includes Holy Trinity’s choir room, choir office, robe room, storage, balcony, offices, and other support spaces.

Including accessible restroom facilities on this level is part of the larger project goal of making dignity and accessibility something people can expect throughout the building, rather than only on its primary public floors.

FOURTH FLOOR

Accessibility all the way to the top floor

The fourth-floor plan includes restroom facilities alongside the Sky Room, kitchen, storage, and corridor spaces.

Adding accessible, all-gender restroom facilities to this level means people using the Sky Room and other fourth-floor spaces will no longer need to travel to another floor simply to find an appropriate restroom.

It is a relatively small portion of the overall floor plan, but an important expression of the project’s larger goal: greater safety, comfort, dignity, and belonging on every level of the building.

Total project cost: including contingency funds, is $4.5 MILLION

Money we already have: $3.01 MILLION. That includes: $1.96 million Stepping Out in Faith designated funds and earnings, $850,000 in early pledges the council allowed before the vote, $200,000 previously designated estate gifts for capital purposes.

What remains to raise: $1.49 MILLION to fully fund the project.

Our research and feasibility study indicated that this is an achievable goal. If the congregation approves the project, Council recommends completing the financing through two complementary efforts:

1. Congregational Giving: Members of the congregation would be invited to consider personally meaningful gifts over the coming months. We expect that most of $1.49 Million to raise must come from our congregation.
2. Community Giving: Holy Trinity would invite community donors into the campaign, building relationships and exploring potential capital gifts where there is interest and readiness. We expect that this effort will have positive future impacts for fundraising but we do not expect that it will raise a significant portion of the capital cost.

If the project is approved, every household will be invited to consider a gift that is personally meaningful. Gifts could be fulfilled over two to three years: 2026, 2027, and 2028.

The gift chart below demonstrates how broad participation at many different levels could help close the remaining gap.

Every personally meaningful commitment would be one part of a shared effort to complete the project.
